Growing Pains: The Power and Predicament of Change
Change, in its many ways, shapes, and forms, is constant. It’s an inevitable neverending aspect of living. It can be negative or positive. It can leave you numb or elated. It can be exhausting or energetic. It can even be a mix of all of those things all at once.
But change is necessary for growth.
I’ve been experiencing a lot of positive change in the last few months. There’s been a new job in a new town, a new car, a new apartment. But even though it’s all been positive change, it’s also been accompanied by some, not necessarily negative emotions but bittersweet ones as well as feelings of anxiety.
Like, will this job be worth the change? Will I like the people there? Will I ever feel comfortable where I’m at in life? Will this new car and new apartment make me broke? How am I going to budget for all of this? Am I leveling up or just setting myself up for failure? Will I make mistakes, and if so how do I deal with them?
The newness aspect of it all makes it exciting and overwhelming at the same time, and the power yet predicament of change is that it’s required for any kind of growth you will need to experience in order to level up and become more aligned with your highest self.
And for that reason, it forces you to get uncomfortable and to work through it. But it’s in that space of discomfort where opportunities to develop yourself and advance abound.
One of the best ways I’ve found to go along with the flow of change is to remind myself that it is an opportunity to just try something out. Nothing is definite nor permanent…it’s ever-evolving and change reminds us that it has no plans of slowing down so we may as well make it work for our benefit.
So all you can do is try your best to go with the flow of it all. And maybe see it this way:
In the thick of it, when something in your life is in flux and working through a changing period, it is a time for you to find ways that you can evolve with it. Find those moments where you can shift and shape yourself and your timeline to become more of what you want it to be. Take the fear head on and use it to transform you and transcend above who you are to who you will become as you move through it.
It’s all a learning experience. And whether it’s a good or bad experience, there are still opportunities for insight into who you are and clarity on how you can benefit from it all. Just make sure that as you flow through it, you go through it in a way that is for the better. And not just better for yourself, but better for all of those people who will be impacted, too.
